Tape & Jointing in Basildon & Essex

Tape and jointing fills the joints, internal angles and screw heads and leaves the rest of the board face as it is. Skimming puts a finish coat of plaster across the whole surface. Jointing is faster, cleaner and dries sooner; skimming evens out everything and is the usual domestic choice.

Much sooner than after skimming. Jointing compounds set and dry quickly, so decorating can usually follow shortly after the final sand rather than waiting days for plaster to dry out.

It needs tapered edge board to work properly — the recess along the edge is what lets the tape and compound sit flush. Square edge board is better skimmed. If the boarding is already up, we will check what has been used before quoting.

Properly done, a jointed wall paints up flat and clean. The difference shows most under strong side lighting, where a skimmed surface is more forgiving. If you have wall lights, big windows or dark paint planned, say so and we will take the jointing further.

Less than people expect. We sand with dust extraction, sheet up and clear as we go, which is why jointing suits occupied houses and businesses staying open.

Only where it is new, sound, tapered edge boarding. It is not a way of tidying up old plaster or damaged walls — those want skimming or reboarding first. We will tell you which on the visit.
