How it goes on

Sprayed On, Not Trowelled

The coating is spray-applied in at least two passes to a finished thickness of around 4–6mm, bonding straight to the surface without beading, mesh or long curing times.

Application

Surfaces are cleaned and made good, then the cork is sprayed in even coats. Fast drying between passes keeps disruption down.

How it compares

Cork Spray Render vs Silicone Render vs Sand & Cement

We fit all three systems, so here is the honest comparison we give customers on site before they decide.

Cork Spray Render

  • Adds genuine thermal insulation to the wall
  • Flexes with building movement, resists cracking
  • Waterproof but fully breathable
  • Reduces sound transfer
  • Goes straight over sound existing render
  • Highest material cost of the three

Silicone Render

  • No meaningful insulation value on its own
  • Good crack resistance in a thin coat
  • Water repellent and breathable
  • No acoustic benefit
  • Needs a basecoat and mesh system
  • Mid-range cost, wide colour choice

Sand & Cement

  • No insulation value
  • Rigid — prone to cracking and blowing
  • Can trap moisture behind the render
  • No acoustic benefit
  • Existing render must come off first
  • Cheapest up front, needs repainting

Straight answers

How Much Does Cork Spray Render Cost In Basildon?

Most companies will not put figures on a website. These are the ranges we work to, so you know roughly where you stand before you pick up the phone.

Cork spray render, applied£60 / m²
Single elevation or gable end£1,500 – £2,700
Semi-detached house, full exterior£5,400 – £7,800
Detached house, full exterior£7,800 – £12,000
Internal room, cold wall treatment£900 – £1,800

What the £60 rate covers: masking and protection, two coats of CorkSol SprayCork to a 4–6mm finish, labour and spray equipment.

Quoted separately: surface repairs, a basecoat where the surface calls for one, and scaffolding or access equipment. Not every wall needs a basecoat — we will tell you on the visit whether yours does.

Whole-house figures are based on typical wall areas for Basildon housing — roughly 25–45m² for a gable end, 90–130m² for a semi and 130–200m² for a detached. Every quote is free, fixed and given in writing after we have measured the property.

Cork Spray Render FAQs

Fifty years of plastering in Essex means we have heard most of these on the doorstep.

What is cork spray render?

It is a wall coating made from granulated cork blended with water-based resins, sprayed on in two or more coats to a finished thickness of roughly 4–6mm. It gives you the weather protection of a render plus the insulating and sound-absorbing properties of cork, in one application.

Can it be applied over pebbledash or existing render?

Yes, provided the existing surface is sound and well bonded. That is one of the main reasons homeowners in Basildon choose it — there is no need to hack off old render and cart it away, which saves a considerable amount on labour and waste.

Will it stop condensation and damp on my walls?

Applied internally it warms the wall surface, which is what stops water vapour condensing on it and forming black mould. It is vapour permeable, so moisture already in the wall can still escape rather than being sealed in. It will not fix rising damp or a leaking gutter — those need dealing with first, and we will tell you if we see one.

How long does cork spray render last?

Twenty years or more when correctly applied, with a product warranty of up to 25 years available on work carried out by a CorkSol Approved Applicator. It does not need repainting, and it resists UV fading, algae and frost.

How long does the job take?

A single elevation is usually a two to three day job. A full house exterior typically takes four to seven days including preparation, plus scaffolding time. Drying between coats is fast, so it is a quicker process than traditional rendering.

Do I need planning permission?

For most homes in Basildon, recoating an exterior wall falls under permitted development. Listed buildings, properties in conservation areas and some newer estates with restrictive covenants are the exceptions. Check with Basildon Council if you are unsure, and we can supply the product details they will ask for.

Can I paint or plaster over it?

Internally, yes — it can be skimmed over and finished like any other wall if you want a smooth painted surface. Externally there is no need, as the colour is in the product itself and stays UV stable.

What colours can I have?

There are 28 standard colours plus a range of textures, from a natural cork finish through to whites, greys and darker contemporary shades. We will bring samples out with the quote so you can see them against your brickwork.
